G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are a large family of proteins that play important roles in human health and disease. Roughly one third of all approved medicines work by targeting a GPCR however, historically none of these medicines have been monoclonal antibodies.

Sirukumab is an immune modulator that dampens inflammatory responses by binding the protein interleukin-6. This has already proved effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis, however, a more radical study is examining the usefulness of sirukumab in treating depression.
